Jim's Scrabble Page

Short Bio

I started playing tournament Scrabble in the Spring of 1992. I found that I had some talent for the game, and being competitive, continued to improve my game. In November 1997, I represented the United States at the World Scrabble Championships held in Washington DC. Although I didn't win it, it was a great experience. I competed for the 1998 North American Championship held in Chicago in August, finishing 6th. I represented the United States at the 1999 World Scrabble Championship, held Nov 3-7, 1999 in Melbourne. Here is the story of my trip to Australia. In the interests of beauty in truth, here are my complete 1999 WSC game logs. I had my best result to that time at the 2001 World Championships, finishing 14th. I attribute my success there to variance. I recently competed in the 2003 World Championships held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia finishing 12th.

I used to publish the modestly titled JGNewsletter concerning theoretical Scrabble questions and analysis beyond the scope of coverage of the Scrabble Player News. Although real life obligations regrettably forced me to discontinue publication, I still have back issues. If you're interested, mail me. Someday I will post a sample issue comprised of material from many issues for perusal. Here is a review from Scrabble Players News (Dec 96):

The newsletter is created and written by Jim Geary, one of the top-rated
players in the world. He puts a good deal of effort to	showcase word puzzles,
game analysis and a variety of different features geared to entertaining and
improving the skills of	intermediate and expert players. Not for beginners,
but if you're a word and game studier, you may enjoy it.
