At one time, I was actually dating a member of the Houston Scrabble Club, and in an effort to be open-minded to my partner's interests, I attended the club. I was given no free challenges and no access to any lists. This Mr. "jboden@hal-pc.org" must have deemed me a "negative influence", because I was consistently matched with players from the top of the club standings. Although, I've tried to put this horrible experience behind me, the recent posts about nurturing or discouraging newbies have brought all the painful memories back.

Still waiting to be mollycoddled,

JG

In Houston, we allow the newby to have free challenges (3 per game) and
use the 2 and 3 letter lists open on the table for their first 4 times.
