myself (1850). The most reluctant to try was the 1600 player -- it's obviously uncomfortable to feel like a novice again and lose your hard-won word knowledge and bluffing advantage if single challenges are used. That's exactly how I feel going from a favorite at NSCs to clueless at WSCs. I actually think this is good for the game. When America converts, ALL the native OSPD players will feel like this. It's good for people.
indication (however small) of the fact that SOWPODS keeps the board more open, more volatile, and therefore gives more scoring opportunities for everyone! The higher rated player cannot just get a lead, close the board and coast. Makes for very interesting competitive games regardless of rating differences!or lower-rated, or evenly-rated. This one facet alone provides a big glimpse into why those who have tried SOWPODS to a man say it's a better game. It's the difference between stopping a football game in the first quarter when one side has a lead vs. actually playing it through to an unknown conclusion.
